Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas’ endearing charm on The Great British Bake Off has resulted in them being immortalised on the pages of a comic book, with the pair making a surprise cameo in cartoon form in The Beano.

Since 2017, Noel, 48, has been one of the hosts of Bake Off on Channel 4, being joined by Matt, 47, in 2020.

The presenting duo bring a light-hearted warmth to the Bake Off tent, injecting humour into the show while also providing comfort to the bakers when they’re feeling high levels of stress.

While fans adore their dynamic in real life, they’ve proven they have just as much charisma in 2D, with Beano cartoonist Wayne Thompson incorporating them into a scene with Bananaman, a character who originated in 1980 in Nutty and has since appeared in The Dandy and The Beano.

Bananaman comic writer Ned Hartley revealed on Twitter that ‘it’s a GBBO week’ for Bananaman in The Beano, starring Noel and Matt in guest appearances.

In the comic strip, a bemused Noel asks Bananaman what he’s made for the technical challenge, to which he replies that he’s offered up a ‘technically perfect’ banana. No surprises there.

Bananaman’s love for bananas knows no bounds, as he then reveals that he’s also serving a banana for his showstopper, as Matt humorously says to Noel: ‘Let’s go talk to absolutely anyone else’.

In the final panel of the strip shared on Twitter, Noel and Matt are in a state of shock over the the town they’ve found themselves in as chaos ensues, with Noel saying: ‘I really don’t understand this town.’

Matt replies: ‘Yeah, I only like it when I’m the weird one.’

If a town is too weird for Noel and Matt, then that’s really saying something!

After Bananaman writer Ned shared the strip on Twitter, Matt shared his delight, revealing he had no idea about his cartoon cameo.

‘Had no idea about this! What a lovely surprise,’ he wrote, as Ned responded: ‘So glad you like it!’

Forget a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – a cameo in The Beano is when you know you’ve really made it.

So will judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith receive the Beano treatment next?

The latest episode of Bake Off saw Amanda leave the tent, as Crystelle was named Star Baker for the very first time.

Next week, the six remaining contestants will take on the challenge of caramel as they battle it out for a chance to be a part of the final five.

The Great British Bake Off returns next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
