The Great British Bake Off judges shocked TV viewers everywhere after giving Jürgen Krauss the boot on Tuesday, and now the baker has thanked Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas for ‘helping him on his mission.’

The baker, who had been tipped by many to be crowned this year’s champion, took to Twitter with a heartfelt message after leaving the programme.

He called presenters Noel and Matt ‘two of the kindest human beings I know’ and said they both helped him ‘reset’ during his time in the tent.

‘Shout out for @RealMattLucas and @noelfielding11 It was a great privilege to have you around,’ he wrote.

‘Apart from being two of the kindest human beings I know your interactions often were a welcome moment to step back and reset, all in all helping me on my mission #gbbo #gbbo2021.’

He became a real fan-favourite on the programme, but Jürgen fell at the final hurdle after going up against Crystelle, Chigs and Giuseppe in the semi-final.

Jürgen became the latest baker to be eliminated by Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, breaking hearts across the nation.

In his exit letter, the IT professional paid homage to the friendships he’s forged with the other contestants, while also explaining how his stint on the show has given him more ‘confidence’ in his baking.

‘Who wants to fly to the moon if you can be on Bake Off? It was such a fantastic ride!’ he wrote.

‘Preparing all the recipes gave me confidence to experiment with flavours in sweet baking, to an extent I’ve never done before.’

Jürgen also thanked all the viewers who have supported him on his Bake Off journey.

‘A huge thank you to all of you for all the kindness and warmth in your response and support! Lots of love, Jürgen,’ he said.

The Great British Bake Off concludes next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
