Great British Bake Off viewers were over the moon to see Peter Sawkins triumph in the final after seeing off competition from Dave Friday and Laura Adlington.
The final saw the bakers tasked with creating custard slices, walnut whirls and dessert tower showstoppers.
Laura proved to be the queen of viewers’ hearts with her relatable reactions to the tricky tasks, and Dave had a really good day with judge Prue Leith praising his dessert tower.
However there was one person people wanted to see back baking with the others – Lottie Bedlow.
Despite the fact Lottie had been eliminated from the competition some time ago, viewers wanted to see her creative designs and dry humour back in the tent.
Many also loved seeing the updates from the bakers, with Lottie hanging out with the other bakers, in particular Mark who she got on very well with.
‘Imagine the iconic looks we’d have from Lottie in the final of Bake Off. Such a shame,’ one viewer tweeted.
‘Wish #Lottie had been in this evening’s #GBBOFinal .Great result none the less @BritishBakeOff Well done Peter!’ said another.
Someone missing Lottie’s snark tweeted: ‘So glad Peter won #gbbo loads of great contestants this year though, and would have loved more of Lottie’s banter’, while another commented: ‘Still think Lottie should have won the whole thing, but Peter was a respectable second.’
Peter was stunned to be handed the coveted Bake Off cake plate trophy.
‘I can’t quite believe that I’m here. ‘This is gonna be a really huge chapter in my life, and what a way for it to end,’ he said after his win.
Describing himself as a ‘Bake Off nerd’ he said he was feeling like ‘an excited, giddy kid’.
