Great British Bake Off’s Laura Adlington unable to taste Christmas dinner after being struck with coronavirus

Great British Bake Off’s Laura Adlington has revealed she and her husband were struck down with coroanvirus just before the Christmas holidays.

The baker, who made it to the final of the 2020 series but lost out to champion Peter Sawkins, disclosed on today’s episode of Lorraine that her sense of taste disappeared – making it pretty difficult to enjoy her festive dinner.

‘No [there’s no after-effects],’ Laura told Lorraine. ‘Me and my husband, we got it just before Christmas.

‘Yeah, we had a rubbish Christmas day missing family and not being able to taste our dinner, but we’re feeling much better now thank you, I think we were quite lucky.’

Changes to your sense of smell or taste are one of the main symptoms of Covid-19, alongside a high temperature or a new, continuous cough.

Laura has also been vocal about the sick trolling she fell victim to during Bake Off.

Having previously stated that the hate she received made her feel like she had ‘murdered someone’, Laura told Lorraine: ‘It was tough, it was hard.

‘It was a tough few days.’

However, Laura insisted that she wasn’t going to let the negativity ‘tarnish her experience.’

She also shared that she’s still in touch with her fellow series 11 co-stars.

‘Yes absolutely, we are all really close, we catch up on our Whatsapp group, they’re a lovely group of people.’

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
