Great British Bake Off’s Rochica is the latest contestant to be eliminated from the 2021 series after failing to rise during Bread Week.

Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood opted to axe the 27-year-old after she presented them with underbaked breadsticks in the technical, while Giuseppe landed the coveted star baker title.

Speaking to the camera after the news was announced, Rochisda said: ‘I have really, really enjoyed it and not everybody gets to bake in the Bake Off tent so I’m proud of where I’ve got to.’

In tonight’s episode, the 10 remaining bakers stepped into the tent where they faced creating a crispy and airy focaccia with any topping of their choosing for the signature.

Paul gave out his first Hollywood handshake of the season to Giuseppe for his foccacia, which contained olives from his hometown Gaeta, Italy and his father-in-law’s oil.

‘The thing that I particularly like is that you haven’t gone overboard with flavour and made a beautifully light focaccia, and you get a mouthful of everything in every bite and that’s all focaccia is,’ Paul told Giuseppe.

‘I think it’s beautiful, well done.’

The technical challenge saw the contestants tasked with producing 12 ciabatta breadsticks served alongside a homemade tzatziki dip.

While some delivered undercooked snacks, Giuseppe’s batch rose to the top and earned him first place.

The last round saw the bakers create milk bread which had to be three-dimensional and reflect a theme of their choice in four-and-a-half hours.

Jurgen from Sussex, who had clinched the star baker title for the last two weeks, struggled slightly this week but saved himself with his creche and child-themed bread scene – which was filled with chocolate and vanilla mousseline.

Next time, it’s dessert week and the bakers face a sticky toffee technical and a multi-layered jacquard showstopper.

Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
