The Great British Sewing Bee judge Esme Young debuted a very unusual accessory in the latest episode of the competition, catching the eye of viewers.
On Wednesday’s episode the sewing bee went international, challenging the contestants to make items of clothing with different countries as the theme including a French breton top, and a transformation challenge involving sarongs.
However the attention of many viewers was fixed on Esme’s latest statement necklace, which made one heck of a statement this week.
Her striking jewellery was made up of empty hand sanitiser bottles filled with different coloured liquids, hanging on the end of coloured keyrings.
Only Esme could pull it off.
A tweet on the show’s official Twitter account explained that she used bottles and carabiners from the Sewing Bee crew.
Esme said it was her way of ‘expressing myself by being creative’ (Picture: BBC)
‘It was a way of transforming something that we all have to use in the pandemic, to something that was fun. Expressing myself by being creative,’ she said in a quote.
Her genius necklace was appreciated by fans of the show, who praised her for ‘outdoing herself’ in the style stakes this week.
Host Joe Lycett was appreciative, as he shared Sewing Bee’s tweet and added: ‘I love her so much’.
The episode also saw sewers tasked with making an outfit inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, with Farie’s storming work earning her sewer of the week for the second week in a row.
Meanwhile the competition said goodbye to Catheryn, who said of her exit: ‘Sewing is a very solitary hobby. We’ve all been locked down for so long haven’t we? So it was like being let out and being able to share among such talented young people. It was amazing.’
The Great British Sewing Bee airs Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
