Brand new drama Hollington Drive is set to air on ITV, focusing on the lives of two sisters whose lives take a dramatic turn when their neighbour’s child goes missing.
Starring Line of Duty’s Anna Maxwell Martin as Theresa and Rachael Stirling as her sister Helen, the synopsis explains that on a summer evening on Hollington drive, a child called Alex Boyd disappears.
Theresa and Helen are described as ‘sisters and social pillars within the community’, who ‘struggle to hold their lives and their families together’ as the mystery of Alex’s disappearance devastates the neighbourhood.
As viewers tune in to watch the thrilling show, they may be wondering where it is filmed, as some may recognise the sites featured in the drama.
So where was Hollington Drive filmed and how many episodes are there?
Where was Hollington Drive filmed?
Hollington Drive was filmed in multiple locations across Wales, with production taking place earlier this year.
According to Wales Online, one scene in the show was filmed at Hang Fire Southern Kitchen in Barry, when Anna’s character is having a meal with her family.
Earlier this month, the restaurant was forced to close its doors due to staff shortages following lockdown.
Hundreds of people queued up on the restaurant’s final day of business for a chance to buy food from the establishment for the last time.
How many episodes are there?
There will be four episodes of Hollington Drive in total, with each instalment being released on a weekly basis.
After each episode airs, it will be made available to watch on ITV Hub.
Who’s in the cast?
The pivotal relationship at the core of Hollington Drive is between sisters Theresa and Helen.
Anna, whose character Theresa is the younger of the two sisters, recently starred in Line of Duty as Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael, in addition to taking a comedic turn in Motherland.
Rachael, who plays Helen, has appeared in series including The Bletchley Circle, Doctor Who and Lewis.
Rhashan Stone plays Theresa’s partner Fraser in Hollington Drive, while Peter Mcdonald portrays Helen’s partner David.
Jodie Mcnee depicts Jean in the drama, a neighbour whose child goes missing, while Jonas Armstrong plays Gareth and Ken Nwosu stars as Eddie, Fraser’s brother.
Amelie Bea Smith is in the cast as Helen’s daughter Eva, while Theresa’s son Ben is depicted by Fraser Holmes.
Also in the cast are Tia May Watts as Georgina and Sex Education star Jim Howick as DS Parks.
Is it based on a book?
Hollington Drive is not based on a book.
The drama is the brainchild of screenwriter Sophie Petzal, whose previous work includes writing Adrian Dunbar thriller Blood.
Speaking to Memorable TV, Sophie explained that she started coming up with the idea for Hollington Drive shortly after finishing the two series of Blood.
‘I wanted to make a show that wasn’t a world away from Blood, but felt bigger and more ambitious tonally. Also, I had always wanted to write about sisters – I have a sister and that relationship is probably one of the most important in my life,’ she said.
Sophie added that she hopes the series is ‘neither bleak nor straightforward’, as it boasts ‘twists and turns’ and ‘goes off in a direction you don’t expect’.
‘It’s quite quirky and it has an incredible cast giving nuanced performances. I love writing dilemmas, and if you’re compelled by watching people making impossible choices, then hopefully this is something you’ll want to watch,’ she said.
Hollington Drive airs tonight at 9pm on ITV with new episodes released weekly.
