Tilly, 19, made her debut on the BBC One series last weekend performing the perfect Charleston which landed her a spot at the top of the leaderboard – and left her TV chef father Gordon sobbing in the audience.
Performing on the Strictly dance floor is a familiar feeling for HRVY, who competed on the series last year and narrowly missed out on winning after finishing second place to Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse.
Recalling his experience, the singer – real name Harvey Leigh Canwell – told Metro.co.uk: ‘It did get very intense. Very intense. But I will say that you’re in the same boat as everyone else and everyone’s getting press attention, you kind of feel safer because everyone’s in the same boat.
‘They really do protect you and help you out on Strictly… As the years have gone by I think things have become a lot more positive so, I’ve seen quite a lot of nice stories this year on certain people which is really nice to see.’
He added: ‘It is quite nerve wracking under that amount of pressure but as long as you do the best you can and you mean well then you can’t have anything written about you badly I suppose.’
HRVY, 22, has been catching up on this year’s performances via YouTube and revealed who he’s backing to win the glitterball trophy.
‘I really want Tilly Ramsay to do well because she’s young and I feel like she can do really well,’ he said.
Explaining why he can relate to her, the pop star added: ‘That’s probably why I really want her to do well, just because she’s similar to my age and I know the pressure put on you so I’d love her to do well.’
When asked if he’s trying not to get on Gordon’s bad side, the singer laughed: ‘100%. The nation doesn’t want to cross Gordon so they’d better vote for her.’
HRVY has just released his new single, Runaway With It, which samples Shanice’s iconic hit I Love Your Smile.
He said of the track: ‘I knew that song because Chris Brown sampled it on one of his songs so the new generation might know it from him and the older generation would know it from the original, so I thought it’d be nice to bring it together.
‘As I’m getting older, I feel like my fan base might be getting a bit older as well. Since I did Strictly Come Dancing I feel like some of my audience might be a bit older now but then I’m also on TikTok and all that stuff, so I think I still have young fans.’
He’s just emerged from a writing camp where he stayed up until 5am most nights working on ‘cool songs’ with other creatives, and promised an EP will be on its way soon.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, he’s still not managed to meet up with his friend Emma Radacanu with both of their schedules jam-packed but it’ll no doubt be happening in the near future.
HRVY’s new single, Runaway With It, is out now.
