I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’s Vernon Kay was left so exhausted from his time in the castle that he broke down in tears.
In scenes that didn’t make it to air, the Family Fortunes presenter found himself homesick and starving as the meagre rations saw him drop more than two stone.
Now reunited with his family, wife Tess Daly and their daughters Phoebe and Amber, Vernon revealed the extent of his struggle in the camp and the tears shed as he struggled with the challenge.
Speaking to Daily Star on Sunday, Vernon admitted he is prone to crying anyway, but added: ‘When you’re in there, you are emotionally drained because you are missing your family. I felt comfortable with that group of people that I could cry.
‘I didn’t think about trying to stop myself from getting emotional.’
‘You are physically drained, too. We were eating nothing but rice and beans most of the time,’ he continued.
‘I lost two-and-a-half stone – that’s weight I didn’t really have to lose.’
While Vernon was missing his family in camp, Tess was obsessively watching her husband of 17 years from home, frequently sharing her support for him throughout the tricky trials.
More than 10 million people tuned into the show’s finale, the first time I’m A Celeb has ever been filmed in the UK.
Moving from Australia due to travel restrictions, the series instead filmed in Gwyrch Castle, Wales – and was so successful the team are now considering remaining there for another year.
