I’m A Celebrity 2021 return to Australia ‘still up in the air’ reveal Ant and Dec

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! might not end up returning to Australia this year, with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly explaining that ‘conversations’ are currently being conducted to see if it can happen.

Last year, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, I’m A Celeb took place at Gwrych Castle in Wales, as an alternative to the Australian jungle camp the celebrity contestants typically stay in on the ITV show.

Looking ahead to the 2021 edition of the programme, it’s uncertain whether travel restrictions will allow it to take place Down Under following Giovanna Fletcher’s 2020 win.

During an appearance on Thursday’s edition of Lorraine, presenting duo Ant and Dec spoke about how the show could work this year and whether a return to Australia is on the cards.

‘It’s still all up in the air at the minute,’ Dec said.

‘People are having conversations with Australia to see if they’ll let us in, and to see if that’s going to work.’

The pair added that if they’re unable to film in Australia, they’d be happy to return to Wales for a second consecutive year.

‘If not, we’ve got a lovely alternative to go back to Wales, which we had a great time there,’ Dec said.

‘We had a really lovely series and the people of North Wales made us feel very welcome. We’d gladly go back there. But we’ll see whether it’s Oz or Wales, we’re not quite sure yet.’

Ant added that having Gwyrch Castle ‘as a backdrop really helped with the challenges and the reference points’, stating that he reckons ‘all the celebs who were in there absolutely loved it’.

‘So we would happily go back to Wales if we had to,’ he said.

Ant and Dec also told Lorraine that they’d been keen to sign up former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan as a contestant on this year’s series.

‘He’s not working at the moment, so he’ll be looking for a job,’ Ant said, while Lorraine replied: ‘Yeah, he’s got a bit of time on his hands, who knows.

‘I think he’d be absolutely amazing in there. It would be quite interesting to say the least.’

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
