Richard Madeley revealed son-in-law James Haskell warned him not to lose his temper in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp.

The 65-year-old is among the stars making their way to Gwrych Castle for the upcoming ITV series, along with David Ginola, Frankie Bridge and Danny Miller.

The Good Morning Britain host may have the upper hand on some of his new campmates as his daughter Chloe Madeley’s husband has previously appeared on the show.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press, he lifted the lid on the advice the former rugby ace gave him before he headed to Wales.

‘Don’t lose your temper. Because James, of course, James is huge…,’ he laughed. ‘So when he went into I’m A Celebrity a couple of years ago, the last one in Australia, along with Kate Garraway and the gang, he suffered from hunger a lot more than most of the others, because he was losing a huge amount of body mass and muscle.

‘He was brilliant [until] I think, halfway through and then hunger just got the better of him. He had a flashpoint with the rest of the camp and shouted at them.

‘Viewers, they don’t like it when people lose their temper, and he was the next one to be voted out.

‘So the only advice he’s given me is, don’t let the hunger get the better of you and if you’re getting ratty, pipe down, keep your temper. He said that to me.’

That does sound like a pretty good tip…

Richard also revealed that former contestants had given him ‘conflicting advice’ on whether to prep for life in camp by changing his diet – but instead, he will be following his own path.

‘You get completely conflicting advice. Some people say do exactly that, cut down so you don’t miss it too much,’ he continued, when asked if he will be cutting down. ‘You’re bound to lose weight, everybody loses weight either in the jungle or the castle. If you don’t get food from the trials, you’re on about 750 calories a day which is way below what you need to maintain body weight.

‘So people say to put it on before you go in, you get very conflicting advice. I’ve actually done neither. I’m not a big eater, actually, I’m a grazer, a snacker, I don’t have big meals, I hardly ever clear my plate. So I don’t think I’ll be too bothered by hunger.

But there is one thing that Richard already isn’t looking forward to in the deserted Welsh castle…

‘I think the thing that I’m going have to cope with, because I’m a very active person, is boredom,’ he added. ‘That’s why I want people to vote me to do the trials.

‘Because what James did say, and lots of people that I’ve interviewed,  people who’ve come out and lots of friends of mine have done it, without exception, they all say that, apart from the hunger, the big issue is boredom.

‘At home you just see the action bits and the fun bits, but lot of the time you’re just sitting around, waiting to hear what that day’s trial is going to be, if there is going to be a trial that day.

‘You’ve done all the chores, you’ve got the firewood, you boil the water, there’s nothing left to do except sit around. People like me, who are quite restless, can find that quite difficult. So that’s something I’m going to have to find a way of coping with.’

We can’t wait to see how that pans out…

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns on November 21, on ITV.
