Influencer dragged for Dubai trip called out by Holly Willoughby for not showing ‘lockdown spirit’

A fitness influencer who appeared on This Morning live from Dubai has been heavily criticised by viewers of the morning talk show, with Holly Willoughby calling her out for not showing ‘lockdown spirit’.

Sheridan Mordew, a personal trainer based in Newcastle, has 11.5k followers on her private personal Instagram account and 12.6k followers on her public fitness account.

On today’s This Morning, the 24-year-old spoke to Holly and Phillip Schofield via video chat to explain her reasoning for heading out to the United Arab Emirates while England is in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sheridan said that one of the reasons why she chose to travel abroad was because the gyms in England are closed.

She added that that another reason was for her ‘own self, her mental health’, as she didn’t feel motivated to work from home.

Sheridan expressed her hope that the workouts she’s doing from her apartment in Dubai will ‘motivate’ people staying at home. However, several This Morning viewers were not having her explanation one bit, with one person saying it’s ‘insulting’.

Sheridan was also called out by Holly, after the influencer said that people need to remember to ‘be kind’.

‘Can I just say something? When you say “be kind” when we see how stretched the NHS is and those nurses that working really hard and all they are saying is “Please stay home, do the right thing, stay home”,’ Holly said.

‘And you’re saying “be kind” are you being kind to them by encouraging others to travel for what you deem is essential work?’

Holly added that it’s not ‘in the lockdown spirit’ for Sheridan to be sharing pictures of herself by a pool in Dubai.

After a series of videos of Sheridan doing indoor workouts in Dubai were shown on screen, Phillip pointed out that the personal trainer could be doing the exercises in her garage in England.

One blogger watching This Morning said it was ‘unethical’ to fly to Dubai as ‘NOBODY needs to be in Dubai to work’.

Someone else commented that Sheridan was ‘really trying to dig herself out of a hole but it just ain’t working’.

‘Flying to Dubai in a pandemic when you can easily do your job from home with no issues is just ridiculous. Stop trying to justify it,’ they added.

‘This girl doesn’t have a leg to stand on, you call yourself an influencer yet you aren’t influencing the younger generation to do the right thing???? Sis just say you did it for the holiday n the money,’ one person tweeted.

‘“A lot of people can work from home…” SO CAN YOU!’ another person stated, quoting a statement Sheridan made on the programme.

Sheridan is one of several influencers to have travelled to Dubai for so-called ‘work’ as of late.

On Monday January 18, the government suspended all travel corridors.

This means that if travellers arrive back in England from anywhere outside the UK, Ireland, the Channel Island or the Isle of Man, they will need to self-isolate for 10 days.

Earlier this month, Love Island star Olivia Attwood called out influencers who have been travelling abroad during the pandemic.

‘There’s a difference between being able to earn money from wherever you are and being on holiday for work. Whenever I go on holiday, I will post content which I can monetise, but I’m still on holiday,’ she said on her Instagram Story.

Olivia added that while she may ‘be tempted to take a trip’ if the current situation ‘goes on for another six months’, the influencers who have been claiming to work while abroad are ‘giving a whole load of people a bad reputation’, particularly as some have admitted to being on holiday.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
