Is this the new X Factor? Simon Cowell returning as TV judge on wild new ITV series and it sounds like a ride

Simon Cowell has announced a brand new gameshow launching on ITV later this year… and it sounds like it could be the new X Factor.

The last time The X Factor aired was in 2018, with the show rumoured to be coming back at some point in future with a revamped format.

Nonetheless, in the meantime music mogul Simon is to star in new ITV programme Walk The Line, a musical gameshow that will see contestants compete for a chance to win a ‘life-changing’ cash prize.

Amid the cancellation of Britain’s Got Talent 2021, Walk The Line will see musical acts – including soloists, duos, bands and choirs – perform for the nation and a panel of judges, including Simon.

The top two performers will then face a difficult decision – to either walk away with a cash prize or continue for the chance to win even more money… or go home with nothing.

If they top the leaderboard, they’ll stay in the running and go up against a new batch of fellow competitors, progressing to the next show.

The longer the participants stay in the competition, the more money they can win – so their massive gamble could definitely pay off big time!

‘We wanted to develop a show which will give the contestants a life-changing cash prize if they win,’ Simon said of the new show.

‘Each show there will be a champion who must make a vital decision: either cash out then and there or stay in the contest to compete again the following night and have a chance to claim the huge prize.’

Simon added that viewers will be left ‘on the edge of their seats’, as the new six-part series will offer ‘real event TV’.

During a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Simon’s close friend Sinitta claimed that he was working on a ‘revamped X Factor’, with plans to launch in 2022.

Simon was absent from the Britain’s Got Talent live shows in 2020 after suffering a back injury, with Diversity’s Ashley Banjo taking his place.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Britain’s Got Talent 2021 had been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Walk The Line is set to air on ITV later this year.
