Jeremy Clarkson thanks Kaleb Cooper as pair receive highest honour at British Farming Awards: ‘You are the star of Clarkson’s Farm’

Jeremy Clarkson thanked Clarskon’s Farm hero Kaleb Cooper as the pair scooped up a prize for raising awareness of British farming at the British Farming Awards.

The Grand Tour host Jeremy, 61, and Kaleb, 23, have been widely hailed by farmers for shining a light on the brutal nature of the industry in the critically-acclaimed Amazon Prime Video series.

Last night, the pair were given a huge honour and received a bellowing applause from their peers and appeared overwhelmed by the incredible response.

Turning to his Clarkson’s Farm co-star, Jeremy said: ‘Kaleb I couldn’t have done this without you.

‘You are the star of the show (apart from Gerald) but what was great and I’m sure everyone in the room would say the same thing, every farm has a Gerald, every farm has a Charlie, every farm has a Kevin, every farm has an Ellen, every farm has a landowner and every farm has a Kaleb.’

Clarkson’s Farm follows Jeremy as he ditches his lavish London lifestyle to put in the hard graft in his Diddly Squat Farm, looking after livestock and growing crops with the show’s breakout star Kaleb.

It’s an unflinching look at one of the toughest industries, and has won Jeremy an entirely new fanbase.

Sheep farmer and author James Rebanks recently said Clarkson’s Farm has done more for farming in one series than Countryfile achieved in 30 years.

‘I can report back from within the farming community: they all loved that programme. They loved it,’ he said at the Cheltenham literary festival.

‘Ok, he’s clowning around and he plays to that audience, and a lot of farmers are lads that like machines and they would have watched Top Gear and all the rest of it.

‘But what they really liked is [that] they have been frankly p—– off with Countryfile for about 30 years because the whole logic of Countryfile is that you can’t make a mainstream, prime-time TV programme about farming because farming is for a niche group of idiots.’

The Environment Secretary Victoria Prentis also recently said the show has done ‘a huge amount’ to raise the profile of agriculture and the challenges it faces.

Clarkson’s Farm is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
