For many people, the Christmas season doesn’t really start until John Lewis has released its festive advert – and folks, that day is here.
This year’s ad, which was released this morning, is inspired by the many acts of kindness shown by the British public during the coronavirus pandemic – and encourages viewers to ‘give a little love’ to others.
The animated clip – which features eight different scenes all interlinked by acts of kindness – is accompanied by an original song, A Little Love – written and performed by singer Celeste.
And the campaign is backed by John Lewis and Waitrose’s aim to raise £4m for two charities – FareShare and Home-Start.
Just what are the two charities and how can you donate to them?
What do FareShare and Home-Start do?
FareShare is a national network of charitable food redistributors – which works by taking surplus food from across the food industry and giving it to charities and community groups.
The charity provides almost a million meals for people in need every week, providing food for breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, community cafes and homeless shelters.
Home-Start, meanwhile, aims to support parents and families through tough times in their lives.
They help families coping with disability and long-term illness, as well as Forces families, those dealing with mental and postnatal health issues, families with multiple children as well as those who have recently ended a relationship.
Both charities have felt the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, with FareShare doubling the amount of food it distributes to meet rising demand, while over one third of Home-Start centres seeing an increase in demand for its services.
John Lewis and Waitrose are aiming to raise £4m to benefit the two charities, in a bid to make a big difference to some of those hardest hit in 2020.
