Has Peggy been brought to the TVA at the same time as Loki? (Picture: Marvel/Disney Plus)
Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 1 of Loki.
The premiere of new Marvel series Loki on Disney Plus has proven a massive hit with fans, as Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief is ensnared by a mysterious organisation called the TVA (Time Variance Authority).
In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, some Marvel fans think they might have spotted another familiar face from the MCU making an appearance at the TVA – the legendary Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), the true love of former Captain America Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).
After causing a breach in the timeline following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Loki is apprehended by TVA agents and brought to their headquarters, where he is made their prisoner.
Loki manages to briefly escape the clutches of the TVA’s Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), using a gadget to transport himself to another part of the building.
At one point, he pops up in a hallway, where behind him a TVA agent walks through a portal accompanied by someone they’ve possibly brought in to stand trial.
This individual looks an awful lot like Peggy, dressed in an old-fashioned dress with what appears to be her signature 1940s style hairdo.
Fans were left reeling over the idea that Peggy might have been arrested by the TVA in Loki and what this could mean for the MCU as a whole.
‘Ok but we’re all thinking that’s Peggy Carter, right? What if she got taken back because Steve went back in time and changed the timeline??? And that would mean Steve is there too???’ one person tweeted.
‘MARVEL IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND LIKE WHY IS PEGGY CARTER THERE???’ another said.
One possible explanation for Peggy being in Loki is the fact that at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve decides to stay with her in the 1940s after embarking on a time-travelling mission to return the Infinity Stones to their respective time periods.

Numerous fans believed that Steve’s return at the end of the film as an old man, having experienced a lifetime with Peggy, meant that Cap caused a new timeline to branch out.
However, during an interview with Fandango, Christopher Markus, one of the writers of Endgame, said that he ‘rejected’ the theory that ‘Steve is in an alternate reality’.
‘We are not experts on time travel, but the Ancient One specifically states that when you take an Infinity Stone out of a timeline it creates a new timeline. So Steve going back and just being there would not create a new timeline,’ he said.
Apparently, Steve didn’t cause any disruption to the timeline (Picture: Marvel/Disney)
‘I do believe that there is simply a period in world history from about ’48 to now where there are two Steve Rogers. And anyway, for a large chunk of that one of them is frozen in ice. So it’s not like they’d be running into each other.’
During his trial at the TVA in front of judge Ravonna Lexus Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Loki says that he thinks the Avengers should be the ones on trial, as he came into possession of the Tesseract during their time-travelling escapades.
However, Ravonna explains that the Avengers did not disrupt the timeline, stating: ‘What they did was supposed to happen. You escaping was not.’
Perhaps this means that Steve staying in the past with Peggy was also supposed to happen, as viewers haven’t seen or heard anything about him being arrested… except for Peggy maybe arriving at the TVA.
What a conundrum!
Loki returns on Wednesday and is available to watch on Disney Plus.
