Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan says close friend Jake Quickenden was ‘really hurt’ by cruel comments on baby

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has spoken about how her close friend Jake Quickenden reacted to the trolls who made cruel remarks about his baby son, saying he was ‘really hurt’.

Last month, singer Jake, 32, welcomed his first child with his girlfriend Sophie Church, a boy named Leo Oliver Quickenden.

While the couple were elated by the new addition to their family, a month later Jake hit back at vile trolls who insulted Leo’s appearance, with the former Dancing On Ice champion saying his son was described as ‘ugly as f**k’ and ‘weird looking’.

On Thursday’s edition of Loose Women, Coleen, who has a close relationship with Jake, said that she saw his inner ‘protective lion’ emerge when defending his son.

She said that when she asked Jake in the past how he copes with trolls, he said that it doesn’t ‘bother’ him and it makes him ‘laugh’ as he just ‘ignores’ the vitriol.

‘It broke my heart that then this new baby boy that he’s so obsessed with… that people could be so cruel,’ Coleen, 56, said.

‘It really hurt him and you saw that protective lion coming out of him. Like, say what you want about me but do not say anything about this gorgeous baby boy.

‘It’s been really hard for him and I think it’s absolutely disgusting. And whoever who’s said anything like that needs to take a good hard look at themselves and be very, very ashamed.’

Fellow Loose Women panelist Charlene White expressed her astonishment over how anyone could be so horrible towards a child.

‘Anyone who looks at a baby and puts a comment like that up is a moron. End of,’ Jane Moore chimed in.

Former member of The Saturdays Frankie Bridge said that when things have been written about her over the years that are not ‘very nice’, she’s ‘learnt how to brush those off’.

However, when it comes to her husband Wayne Bridge or their two children, it ‘angered me so much’ when anything nasty was said about them.

‘I don’t understand why you would feel the need to say that about someone’s child,’ she stated.

Earlier this week, Jake revealed that a troll who called Leo ‘ugly’ had contacted him and apologised.

Speaking on his Instagram Story, Jake said: ‘He sent me his number on Instagram, I gave him a ring. Do you know what the scary thing is? He’s a nice lad.

‘He apologised and said it was pathetic and he was after a few likes and he needs to grow up. If it’s taught him anything then hopefully he won’t do it again. That’s all we ask for.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
