The pair appeared on the ITV morning show on Monday, where Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langford and former islander Amy Hart quizzed them about their breakup ahead of the reality show’s finale.
The pair contemplated life outside the show after leaving in dramatic style last week.
But those watching at home could sense there was some tension between the two as the awkwardness was palpable through their video link.
Speaking up about the interview, Liberty explained why she and Jake looked so uncomfortable around each other.
‘Obviously, you might have seen the awkward TV interview,’ she said to Capital FM Breakfast presenters Rob Howard Lauren Layfield on Wednesday morning.

‘That’s because we hadn’t spoken to each other at all after breaking up,’ revealed Liberty. ‘And to then go on TV…
‘So that’s why it was a bit obviously awkward on them TV shows.
‘Obviously, we’ve spoken since and we’re just friends at the moment, there’s no animosity between us.
‘It’s just, I think I did the right decision for me at the time and I’m happy with my decision. Obviously, there’s no bad blood between us,’ added Liberty.
Liberty could not believe the This Morning producers would put them on a TV show together so soon after their breakup and without a chance to chat privately before then.
‘It’s not the best, being on there with your ex, I’m not gonna lie,’ joked the former islander.
While appearing on The Morning, Liberty said it was ‘fair to the others to leave’ when they did as they ‘weren’t getting on as we used to’.
‘Yeah obviously I do still love him,’ she said when discussing a possible future with Jake. ‘It is hard being around him. I do think I made the right decision because you’ve got to put your feelings first.’
Jake added: ‘Enough was enough. My head was in overdrive. It was so intense. We were at a wall.’
Discussing their relationship, the water engineer said: ‘I feel like it’ll be a lot easier on the outside. I don’t know yet… I’d like to think so.’
‘I’m feeling good. I definitely made the right decision,’ Liberty said. ‘There’s no animosity there. We get on really well.’
She added: ‘You can never say never because you don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. But for now, we made the right decision.’
