Madness are to star in a new docuseries based on their 2019 memoir Before We Was We: Madness By Madness.
The three-part documentary, set to premiere exclusively on AMC via BT TV on May 1 at 9pm is adapted from the band’s book, and will document the legendary Camden group’s rise to fame and their 12 studio album releases.
The show will feature original footage from their formation of former and current members including Graham ‘Suggs’ McPherson, Mike ‘Barso’ Barson, Lee ‘Thommo’ Thompson, Chris Foreman, Daniel ‘Woody’ Woodgate, Carl ‘Chas Smash’ Smyth and Mark ‘Bedders’ Beford from their formation in 1976 onwards.
Looking back at his career, frontman Suggs said: ‘I don’t remember ever thinking about whether it was going to last.
‘You see this polished Madness but that’s been going for years and people would think, “course you knew”.
‘But I didn’t have a clue. I wasn’t taking it in the slightest bit serious. That’s why I got thrown out of the band at the start, because I just thought it was a laugh and just something to do – hanging out with pretty cool geezers.
‘The idea that I was ever going to make a career out of it was totally beyond my comprehension.’
Madness were one of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s and were known for their two-tone ska revival.
The perform today with six members of their original seven member line-up although their most successful period was between 1980 and 1986 when their songs spent a total of 214 weeks on the UK Singles Chart.
The musical group has had a total of 15 singles reach the UK top 10, including One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers and It Must Be Love.
They reached the top of the charts with their tune House of Fun.
Before We Was We will air exclusively on BT TV at 9pm on Saturday May 1 and will be available afterwards on BT Player.
