Manhunt viewers were left in awe of Martin Clunes ‘Bafta-worthy’ performance in the gripping new series of the ITV drama.
Fans have been hooked over the last few nights as the actor leads the cast as real-life detective Colin Sutton, in the series which tells the true story of the investigation into the criminal commons known as the Night Stalker.
The police searched for the criminal who targeted elderly people in southeast London, and who was only caught 17 years after his first assault.
The three-part series continued on Wednesday night as the task of tracking down the notorious serial rapist and burglar Delroy Grant took place on our screens.
A breathless chase sequence saw the Metropolitan Police come desperately close to tracking him down, but to no avail in the episode.
While the Metropolitan Police’s search for the criminal went without concrete results, fans were quick to praise Martin’s performance.
The actor, who dons a convincing cockney accent in the programme, inspired praise on social media, with some calling for him to be recognised by Bafta for his performance.
‘Just give #Martinclunes the bafta now. And throw in a knighthood while you’re at it,’ one impressed fan wrote.
‘Martin Clunes is just amazing in #manhuntthenightstalker,’ another one said.
The programme is based on the case which was code-named Operation Minstead.
The series picks up from the first series which focused on Detective Sutton as he solved the real-life murder of Amelie Delagrange in 2004.
Manhunt continues on Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
