Matt Hancock couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Piers Morgan by offering advice on a lasting relationship after another brutal on-air clash.
The health secretary appeared on Good Morning Britain today to discuss the potential lockdown easing for the sake of Christmas, as well as the breaking news of the Oxford vaccine and its 70% success rate.
However, he was soon butting heads with Piers, who repeatedly asked him about the potential of MPs getting a £3,000+ pay rise despite millions losing their jobs as a result of a pandemic.
While Mr Hancock refused to answer the question, the pair clashed, and when the interview wound to a close, the MP took his chance to take a swipe.
In honour of his five-year working anniversary with Susanna Reid on GMB, Piers asked the MP what the secret to a lasting relationship was, considering he’s been married since 2006.
‘It’s all about seeing the best in each other, and I think everybody could benefit from that advice,’ Mr Hancock said.
‘What would you think Susanna should see the best in me?,’ Piers then probed, with Susanna admitting she ‘struggled’.
‘That is quite a struggle, Piers. That is quite a struggle,’ Hancock then smirked.
‘I know, the best Piers is when occasionally you allow an interviewee to answer a question.’
‘I asked you a very simple question about 10 times this morning, and you weren’t able to answer it,’ Piers then bluntly responded.
‘So sometimes, the easiest thing is for an MP or politician or a cabinet minister is to give a straight answer to a simple question like “do you want a pay rise?”.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
