Warning: spoilers ahead for Money Heist season 5 part 1.
Money Heist season 5 part 1 has dropped on Netflix, revealing to fans what happened after The Professor (Álvaro Morte) was discovered in his hideout by disgraced police officer Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).
After discovering that The Professor is captured, the members of the heist, including Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) and Lisbon (Itziar Ituño) have to think fast on their feet on their own as they face an attack and intrusion from the army in the Bank of Spain.
However, despite their best efforts, serious injuries are sustained and lives are lost, following the devastating loss of Nairobi (Alba Flores) in season four.
As fans wait for season five part two to be released later this year, who out of the gang has died as the five part draws to a painful close?
Who dies in season 5 part 1?
In the final episode of Money Heist season five part one, Tokyo, Denver and Manila are seemingly trapped in the kitchen of the bank while Gandia and the military forces continue to attack them with all of their might.
Tokyo realises that some of the soldiers are trying to drill holes into the pantry and so she shoots at their feet through holes that they’ve created in the wall.
However, as she retreats back into the kitchen, snipers from a building opposite the bank shoot at her, resulting in her sustaining shots in her legs and arm.
Despite being hit by five bullets, Tokyo still manages to get back behind her gun as Denver and Manila escape the kitchen through a dumbwaiter lift.
As they scream at her to follow, with Rio also begging her to escape through a hole he’s drilled in the ceiling from the room below, Tokyo stays and is shot again as Gandia and the military enter the room.
Just as it seems as though Gandia is going to shoot Tokyo dead, just like he did with Nairobi, she opens her hand to reveal she has detonated several grenades attached to her front.
The episode ends with a huge explosion, killing Tokyo and possibly more.
Elsewhere, Helsinski’s life hangs in the balance, after his leg was crushed by a marble column.
What does the ending mean for part 2?
While Money Heist has seen plenty of miracles in its day, the possibility of Tokyo somehow surviving the blast – considering the grenades were attached to her front – has to be impossible.
This will have a huge impact on the rest of the gang in part two, as they presumably try to continue with the heist and fight back against the army.
Will they be able to continue with their mission while grieving yet another member of their team?
Another aspect of the show to think about is the fact that Tokyo has been the narrator from the very start.
So will a past version of Tokyo continue to narrate? Or will someone else take on the role in the future episodes?
When is the season 5 part 2 release date on Netflix?
Season five part one of Money Heist, released on Friday September 3, consisted of five episodes.
The next five episodes will be released in part two, due to drop on Netflix on Friday December 3.
Money Heist is available to watch on Netflix.
