Netflix just made one of its most popular documentaries, The Social Dilemma, available for free.

The film left viewers traumatised in 2020 with a frightening depiction of the realities of social media, with some even vowing to delete social media altogether after realising how closely we are monitored online.

So, if you want to rewatch or fancy exploring the dangerous human impact of social networking for the first time, you’re in luck.

The documentary is now available on YouTube for everyone.

Directed by Jeff Orlowski, The Social Dilemma reveals the harrowing consequences of our ever-growing social media obsession over 93 minutes.

The Netflix synopsis for the film states, ‘We tweet, we like, and we share. But what are the consequences of our growing dependence on social media? As digital platforms increasingly become a lifeline to stay connected, Silicon Valley insiders reveal how social media is reprogramming civilisation by exposing what’s hiding on the other side of your screen.’

The doc contains interviews with experts from Facebook, Google, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest who share their sinister views about the internet.

It provoked strong reactions when it first came to our screens, but also many positive reviews, with an 86% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83% audience score, based on 500 user ratings.

It’s also nominated for a 2021 Emmy.

Watch The Social Dilemma on YouTube, available until the end of September 2021.
