The official trailer for Outlander season 6 has been released, teasing upheaval, threats and the great possibility of bloodshed as the revolutionary war looms.
In the upcoming new episodes of the hit drama, Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) have a beautiful life for themselves at Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina in the early days of America.
However, all of that is threatened by the growing political unrest, as Claire issues a warning about the imminent revolution as redcoats descend upon their homeland, stating ominously in the trailer: ‘It’s starting. If only they knew what was coming.’
In the new snippets, Claire emphasises to Jamie that what’s going to happen won’t come between them, as he tells her: ‘You helped to pull me back from the darkness. You are always with me.’
However, the former Scottish rebel is torn by his identity, as he stresses that he cannot be two things at once: ‘A rebel, a loyalist. An agent for the crown and an enemy of the king.’
The teaser shows the Frasers forced to defend their property from attackers wielding guns, with one scene even showing a pistol pointed in Jamie’s direction.
Despite making a home with Jamie, Claire is still also feeling torn in a unique way, having originally been transported back to the 18th Century from the time of the Second World War.
‘I don’t belong here,’ she exclaims to Jamie, mentioning their daughter, Brianna, who was raised in the 20th century, and Brianna’s husband Roger, who is also from the future.
‘Brianna, Roger, they don’t belong here. But yet, here we are, all of us. Because I loved you more than the life that I had,’ Claire continues.
In the synopsis for the new season, American network Starz explains that the Frasers are trying to live in peace.
However, Claire’s knowledge of the Revolution means that she is full-aware that danger is on its way.
‘The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society, which—as Claire knows all too well—is unwittingly marching towards Revolution,’ the description states.
‘Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge.
‘They must now defend this home—established on land granted to them by the Crown—not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care.’
Outlander premieres on March 6 on Starz in the US.
