Phillip Schofield tears up as caller thanks him for ‘making a difference in my life’

Phillip Schofield became visibly emotional on today’s This Morning when a caller thanked him for ‘making a difference in my life’.

During Thursday morning’s show, Phillip and his temporary co-host Davina McCall received a phone call from a caller called Michelle.

As soon as Michelle came on the phone, she immediately began explaining to the presenters how much ITV’s This Morning – and Phillip in particular – means to her.

‘Thank you so much for making a difference in my life,’ Michelle said, a shocked expression dawning on Phillip’s face.

Michelle explained that she has been shielding at home since February, as she suffers from a chronic pain condition.

She’s had minimal contact with other people other than carers, as her daughter is at university, she said over the phone.

‘I have a sofa at the end of my bed. Instead of having people there, I have you there Phil, every day, and you just brighten my world,’ Michelle said.

At this point, Phillip looked teary, at a loss of what to say in response.

‘I don’t know what to say. That’s really lovely,’ he replied, looking down.

Davina then asked Michelle what it is about Phillip that she loves the most.

‘I love everything about him. I actually set my alarm for 10 to 10,’ Michelle said, as This Morning begins at 10am on weekdays.

‘If it wasn’t for This Morning, I wouldn’t have got through it. You brighten my day.’

Michelle then asked Phillip about whether models in wheelchairs could be used on future fashion segments on the show.

While Phillip said that models in wheelchairs have been featured previously, he admitted that it is ‘certainly not done enough’.

And so, he put forward a proposition to Michelle, inviting her to star in a fashion segment on This Morning when it is safe to welcome guests onto the show.

‘Oh please I’d love to meet you, I just want to give you a hug,’ she responded.

Phillip added that when Michelle is welcomed to the studio, she’ll be able to keep the clothes she models.

One This Morning viewer tweeted that Michelle’s phone call left them ‘in tears’.

‘Omg Michelle has melted me. The most emotional phone call I’ve ever heard. Wasn’t that lovely,’ another person said.

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
