Piers Morgan proudly massaged his ego this morning after playing comedian Munya Chawawa’s new song named after him, and admitted he was ‘flattered’ by the tribute.
Social media star Munya has released his first ever single, titled Piers Morgan, as one of his characters, Unknown P, in ode to the Good Morning Britain presenter.
After sharing his initial reaction last week, Piers treated viewers to the sounds of the hilarious track during Wednesday’s episode of GMB.
Susanna Reid joined Piers in dancing to the song as the music video played before he asked: ‘What am I? I’m a rap icon?’ He then quipped: ‘I’m a drill sergeant.’
Piers then admitted he was unaware of Munya’s stardom which has soared during the coronavirus pandemic thanks to his brilliantly witty spoofs and satire clips about politics and entertainment.
‘Who is this guy? My kids have all heard of him. Everyone says this guy is well known, I’ve never heard of him,’ Piers confessed before offering Munya a guest spot on next Monday’s episode.
The TV host then revealed: ‘I’m flattered I think – I don’t know, am I?’
Susanna was loving her own name-drop on the song and said: ‘I am, “Susanna Reid he’s adoring”,’ in reference to one of the lyrics.
Munya, 27, recently explained to Metro.co.uk why Piers was the object of Unknown P’s affections and said: ‘I think, to a character like Unknown P who is very much embedded in middle-class culture, I feel like there’s a strong affinity between the two characters.
‘Unknown P is somebody who, as a character, speaks their mind, often shows this obliviousness to other people’s feelings, or what’s right or wrong, sometimes ignores social etiquette. And I feel like a lot of the time that’s what that’s what gets Piers in trouble.
‘I think Unknown P sees a lot of himself in Piers, for sure.’
Appearing to foreshadow Piers’ dance moves on GMB, Munya added: ‘I think a worst case scenario is a diss track back from Piers. And the best case scenario is forcing Piers to dance to some drill on Good Morning Britain.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
