The presenter, 43, was joined by Giovanni on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday to discuss their first performance this weekend, where Ranvir will be performing the paso doble.
She and Giovanni made their Strictly debut on Saturday night during the show’s launch show and are spending this week in training ahead of their first live show.
But, things haven’t exactly been plain sailing with Ranvir admitting she and Giovanni fell out and needed some time apart.
‘We had a 20 minute divorce,’ she told co-host Kate Garraway, as Giovanni joined the show via video link.
‘We had 20 minutes apart and then it’s been plain sailing ever since,’ Ranvir said, with Kate then teasing: ‘Gosh, after four days? Did you storm off, Ranvir?’
‘No, we had a quiet moment where we just needed some time to ourselves for 10 minutes,’ Ranvir explained. ‘I’m going to have to be honest, I had a total meltdown and Giovanni put me in my place.’
‘He just said, “look, let’s never give up,” it says never give up [tattooed] on his arm and he was like, “that’s who I am,” so I was like, “right, ok.”‘
Giovanni suggested that Ranvir, who split from her husband shortly after it was announced she was joining Strictly this year, wasn’t so used to having someone telling her what to do.
He offered: ‘It’s also because you’ve never done anything like this before, so coming into the training room and listening to somebody repeating for hours what you have to do obviously doesn’t feel comfortable.
‘Unfortunately or fortunately, that’s my job. People telling you what to do and maybe you’re not used to it. We got better and we achieved what we wanted to achieve. Never give up and you’ll achieve what you want.’
Teasing that fans can expect good things from Ranvir, Giovanni revealed he was ‘surprised’ by his celebrity dance partner in rehearsals.
‘I’m telling you, we’ve been rehearsing all week and I’m quite surprised myself,’ he said. ‘It’s going to be interesting to see Ranvir in a different way.’
Kate joked that Giovanni is already making quite the impression on her co-star, as she told him: ‘As soon as we said your name, [Ranvir] immediately sat up straight and was holding in her core, you’ll be pleased to hear.’
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Strictly will air for nine weeks instead of its usual 13 weeks, with new social distancing and safety measures in place to allow filming to go ahead.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
