Richard Madeley is doing little to silence the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here rumours after asking for tips on how to survive in the jungle.
The TV presenter is among the stars who have reportedly signed up for the upcoming series, with sources claiming he’s agreed a deal worth £200,000.
During Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Richard, 65, skirted around the subject while slyly trying to get advice from former campmate Nigel Havers.
While interviewing the actor, Richard said: ‘For you it wasn’t the happiest experience as a lot of people… I don’t know anybody, or actually I do know one person, who says they regret going in the jungle…
‘You don’t have any regrets for going in have you?’
The Bidding Room actor Nigel replied honestly: ‘I’ll sum it up in two words: total boredom.
‘It’s a fantastic show, it’s one of the highest rated shows but the fact you only see one hour a night, there are 23 other hours which you have to fill in and of course you can’t take a book or anything like that. You just have to sit there and wait to be picked to do some horrible thing the next day.’
Richard seemed suspiciously interested in the topic and continued: ‘My son-in-law, James Haskell, the rugby player, he was in the last one they did in Australia and he said exactly the same thing. He blew his top finally which was one of the reasons he exited reasonably early.
‘I don’t blame him. A, he was starving – he’s a big bloke James, he was starving on 750 calories a day if you don’t get any treats from the trials. But also, he said the same thing, the sitting around.’
Nigel joked that he ‘didn’t really notice the eating thing’ before revealing he had lost a stone during his stint in the jungle in 2010.
‘I came out like a twig, I looked like a biro when I came out,’ he said.
I’m A Celeb hosts Ant and Dec teased the line-up last week with a video hinting at the celebrities.
Alongside Richard, EastEnders actor Adam Woodyatt is among the names favourite to appear in the next series, as well as Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips, Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon, and even Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. I’m A Celebrity is expected to arrive later this year.
