Russell Watson has refused to rule out that he’s going on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! 2020.

The opera singer appeared on Tuesday’s instalment of Steph’s Packed Lunch to discuss his new album.

However, Steph couldn’t help but quiz him on the rumours, that he’s going on the ITV series this year.

Jumping right in there with the questions, Steph began: ‘I’ve got to ask you first of all, are you going on I’m a Celebrity?

Russell sighed as he replied: ‘It’s funny, because I’ve been linked with so many things over the last 20 years.

‘If we go back to 2002 believe it or not, I was linked to being the next James Bond and all I was doing was a TV show to celebrate the music of the James Bond movies, so that wasn’t true.’

‘Recently everyone was writing to me on Twitter about The Masked Singer because everyone thought I was the hedgehog for some reason,’ he added.

Deciding not to let it go, Steph pushed Russell even further for an answer.

She continued: ‘Coming back to the question, there are rumours that you’re going to get paid £100k for doing it, that’s alright isn’t it for a few days in a castle?’

‘Yeah, it would be lovely! Not been paid for doing anything else this year!… You’re pushing this aren’t you Steph,’ Russell said.

To which the host responded: ‘If you were doing it, hypothetically speaking, would you be scared of any of the things?’

‘I’m really claustrophobic, but that is to do with my association from when I had the [brain] tumours and the association with MRI scans and as soon as I go in anything that is an enclosed space I start to panic – I didn’t use to before,’ Russell concluded.

Russell isn’t the only celeb rumoured to be doing the show this year, which will be held at a Welsh castle instead of the Australian jungle.

The singer was also recently spotted pulling up to what was thought to be a promotional photoshoot for the series on Friday.

Pictures obtained by the Sun also showed Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard and Russell arriving at the top-secret meeting in blacked-out cars.

Other celebs supposedly taking part in the ITV hit include Vernon Kay, presenter Victoria Derbyshire, Paralympian Hollie Arnold, EastEnders’ Jessica Plummer and Strictly star AJ Pritchard.

An IAC spokesperson was unable to confirm the stars’ participation in the upcoming series, telling ‘Any names suggested for I’m A Celebrity are just speculation.’

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
