Silent Witness left viewers with a cliffhanger after Tuesday’s finale, leaving fans begging for another series of the forensic drama.
Tuesday’s episode culminated with the return of Sam Ryan, played by Amanda Burton, who first appeared in 1996, starring in 54 episodes.
Amanda left the show in 2004 when her character Sam returned home to Northern Ireland to be with her family.
The finale of season 24 saw Sam ring up Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) to ask for her help, teasing a return of the character after 17 years.
But the question on everyone’s lips is, will we finally get to see what a return for Sam will entail?
Will there be a season 25?
There is definitely going to be a season 25, where viewers will get to see what the return of Sam Ryan will entail.
Amanda said after the teaser aired: ‘I am so excited to be returning to Silent Witness and stepping back into Sam Ryan’s shoes – with a difference!
‘Audiences can look forward to plenty of twists and turns as they discover what Sam’s been doing since leaving the Lyell.’
Co-star Emilia was also over the moon at Amanda’s return, adding: ‘It is such a delight and thrill to be working with Amanda.
‘To have Sam Ryan back again at the heart of the show is the greatest way of all to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Silent Witness.’
Lawrence Till, Executive Producer at BBC Studios Production, said of the 25th anniversary series: ‘Silent Witness has a large and loyal audience and remains as popular as it has ever been with audiences regularly consolidating at over six million viewers.
‘It is fantastic to have Sam Ryan at the centre of the series again alongside our other Lyell characters for a monumental story told in six parts.’
The 25th anniversary series of Silent Witness will broadcast on BBC One in 2022.
