Stranger Things star David Harbour revealed he has known how the series ends for years, and although he can’t say too much, he expressed that ‘it’s quite beautiful.

The thrilling Netflix hit – which airs May 27 – will follow a new ‘war’ for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the rest of the Hawkins gang, and, nearly three years since the last season, this time around it looks to be just as scary as we’d expect, with a new gruesome villain known as Vecna.

The season three cliffhanger showed town sheriff Jim Hopper (David) being seemingly killed after sacrificing himself so Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) could close the gate between the Upside Down and the real world.

In an open letter to fans, the Duffer Brothers confirmed last month that the fifth chapter will mark the end of the saga, with the upcoming fourth instalment airing in two parts – and David has assured devoted fans that it’s something special.

‘I think that I needed to know as we were shooting early on, because I needed to know where he ends up and for what reason he ends up there,’ said the 47-year-old actor.

‘I know what happens and it’s quite moving and quite beautiful,’ he added to Variety.

But don’t worry, David has assured everyone that he’ll be taking all spoilers ‘to my grave, I promise. This is a big one.’

Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently confirmed that ‘episode nine is a long movie.’

The siblings explained they were initially going with eight episodes for the upcoming run, but they had too much to fit in.

His brother Ross added that the final two episodes ‘are over two hours’, as he promised The Wrap: ‘It’s a big one.’

Matt told Collider: ‘I think we were at least halfway, but I think probably over halfway through this season, were trying to squeeze the story in, and we sat down with our writers, and we said, “I don’t think this is feasible in eight episodes”.

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 will be available to stream on Netflix from Friday, May 27.
