The comedian, who was crowned winner of the 2020 series with professional partner Oti Mabuse, joined Ranvir Singh on today’s episode of Lorraine hours after he was pictured leaving the BBC studio like a rock star.
Lifting the lid on the close shave, Bill explained: ‘There was a pre-recorded section where we did a walk down at the beginning of the show. Jamie and I were on one side and Maisy and HRVY were on the other and we had a count in and then we had to walk down.
Bill confessed that he and Jamie both missed the count, so a stage manager offered to count them both in.
‘Jamie and I were like, “yes, yes, we’re fine, between the two of us we can count to eight,” and just as I said that I kicked over one of the pyrotechnic boxes, tripped over that and nearly fell down the stairs,’ he continued.
‘We can’t be left alone for a second!’
‘That would have been a great way to start the show,’ Bill laughed. ‘Bill Bailey has ignited his own trousers.’
Bill and Oti delivered an emotional speech to their fans in a video soon after they were named victorious on Saturday.
Speaking with their new trophy firmly in their hand, Bill said: ‘We cannot express in words what this means to us both.
‘So to everyone that voted for us, everyone that supported us, any message of support that we received, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It means the world to us both.’
‘And thank you to everyone who supported the show,’ Oti added. ‘It means the world to us.
‘This show is everything to us and it gave us hope, and you guys watching and supporting and voting for everyone means a lot. Thank you so much!’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
