The TV presenter, 33, has made it to the show’s semi final, and said she’s loved showing a more vulnerable side to herself on the dance floor.
AJ – who is paired with professional partner Kai Widdrington – said being taught how to express her emotions through dance has been ‘life-changing.’
‘I do definitely feel empowered by the show, I’m completely liberated,’ she said.
‘There are so many little things as well in television that I think subconsciously I’ve not even realised about myself, even the confidence to go on TV in front of millions of people without a face of make-up on, that’s been quite a thing.’
She added: ‘Showing different sides of my personality, being my complete, unapologetic self, has been quite liberating because, I guess, it’s not something that I do naturally, like go on TV and cry, I’m always usually bubbly and bouncy.’
The Blackburn beauty said it’s been ‘amazing’ to be accepted for just being herself, crediting Kai for all he has taught her.
Romance rumours have surrounded the pair since the early days of their stint on the show, and AJ thinks it’s ‘lovely’ how viewers are so invested in their relationship.
After much speculation following their steamy routines and electric chemistry, AJ said: ‘I think this goes to show how we are clearly getting on really well. But, obviously, we just really want everyone to focus on what we’re doing on the dance floor.’
Professional dancer Kai agreed with her, saying that, if they look like more than friends while dancing, then they are doing their job correctly because that’s ‘how the dance is supposed to be done.’
AJ joked she could use her new moves if she saw an attractive man on the dance floor, adding that she thinks ‘dancing is so joyous and so beautiful.’
She ‘can’t wait’ to show off her dance moves ‘at Christmas and birthdays and weddings.’
‘I’m ready to clear dance floors across the UK,’ she exclaimed.
The pair are ‘excited’ to have reached this point in the competition, but admitted they will miss their time together and with the whole Strictly cast once the show is over.
Never fear, though, as they assured they will remain close.
Kai said he and AJ ‘get on like a house on fire,’ so ‘of course’ they’re going to see each other beyond Strictly rehearsals after getting to know one another so well.
This weekend saw the four remaining couples dance two dances each for the first time in the competition.
AJ and Kai delighted viewers with a Quickstep and a Rumba.
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs tonight at 7:20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
