Strictly Come Dancing 2021: Craig Revel Horwood ‘praying’ AJ Odudu will make final after injury

Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood is keeping his fingers crossed that AJ Odudu will be able to perform in Saturday’s final given her injury.

AJ is currently using crutches after sustaining a ‘traumatic injury’ to her ligaments and is unsure whether she’ll be able to compete for the glitterball at the weekend.

As it currently stands, she and her partner Kai Widdrington is set to face John Whaite and Johannes Radebe and Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice in the last episode of the series.

Discussing the situation on Good Morning Britain, Craig said: ‘She thinks she’ll be able to get through it and like any sportsperson, you soldier on.

‘She’s worked for months and months and months to get to this point and suddenly an injury can occur, it happens. I think she just went over it.’

‘Let’s just wait and see,’ he added. ‘I’m hoping and praying because she is so good and I will really miss her if she’s not there.’

AJ expressed she is ‘frustrated and upset’ over her injury but vowed she is ‘doing everything’ to make sure she can dance despite being unable to rehearse since Monday.

Explaining her injury, she said: ‘Basically, long story short, I’ve hurt the ligament in my arch, and I can’t put any weight on my foot at all. So we have missed a lot of training, because I can’t stand up, I’m on crutches and I’m doing everything I can to try and be there on Saturday night.’

‘I am at this moment in time very frustrated and upset,’ she added. ‘But again, our main focus is my foot at the moment and just making sure that we can make it on Saturday.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and Strictly Come Dancing concludes on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
