BBC Breakfast presenter Dan is among the new batch of contestants on the reality series, which is due to kick off this autumn. He joins the likes of AJ Odudu, Tilly Ramsay, John Whaite, Alex Peaty and Nina Wadia.
Former Strictly judge Len has said he is a huge fan of this year’s line-up as it has a ‘lovely eclectic mix of people’.
Singling out Dan, the TV star said on Good Morning Britain: ‘I played golf the other week with Dan Walker and he’s up for it. I tell you, he’s a competitive sort of guy.’
Susanna Reid, who is a rival of Dan and BBC Breakfast, then claimed: ‘He pretends to be Mr Nice Guy, doesn’t he but actually he’s absolutely gonna grab that trophy.’
Len admitted: ‘Whether he’s good I don’t know, however, he won’t lose for lack of trying.’
GMB presenter Ben Shephard chimed: ‘He’s looking forward to that as well, he loves a bit of hard work.’
Heaping even more praise on Dan, Len enthused: ‘He’s tall, he’s got an elegance about him, he’s good at golf which is great because you need timing, rhythm, good movement, technique, all the stuff you need for dancing.’
Dan announced he would be taking part in the BBC One series in August and told his BBC Breakfast co-hosts: ‘I’m not making any room on our shelf for the glitterball,’ so it’s safe to say Len was right and he does have his eye firmly on the prize.
He added: ‘My kids have only ever asked me to go on two shows… Saturday Mash-Up and Strictly. I did Saturday Mash-Up this summer so… it’s time to embrace the sequins.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
Strictly Come Dancing’s live shows start on September 18.
