Sara Davies has opened up about body insecurities she experienced ahead of the launch of Strictly Come Dancing 2021, revealing how the person in charge of wardrobe soothed her concerns.

With just a couple of days until the new series of Strictly begins on BBC One, fans can’t wait to see what famous faces such as Dan Walker, Judi Love and Adam Peaty have in store on the dancefloor.

The celebrities will have had to get used to a brand new environment extremely fast, one that includes costumes that sparkle, shimmy and shine galore.

During a recent Q&A attended by Metro.co.uk and other press, Sara explained that the wardrobe she’ll get to wear on the show is what she’s looking forward to the most, saying: ‘That’s going to be the best bit.’

However, the Dragons’ Den star did have concerns about how her body would suit the bedazzled costumes, she shared.

‘I was really conscious of my mum tum and everything like that, and the head of wardrobe said, “Honestly, don’t worry about it,”’ she said.

Sara, 37, explained how the wardrobe team added ruches to the sides of her costumes, in addition to putting her in ‘two pairs of spanx’ and adding ‘extra padding’ in her bra.

All of this helped give her a ‘bit of shaping’, she said, which would have boosted her confidence going on the dancefloor.

When it was announced that Sara was going to be a part of the new line-up, she revealed that when it comes to her past dancing experience, she’s ‘really good’ when she’s had a ‘few drinks on a Saturday night’.

She then added: ‘My Mam and Dad are going to be so excited. I’m really nervous because so far the producers keep asking me if I can dance. Truth be told – I haven’t got a clue! I’ve not danced since I did ballet lessons when I was little.

‘The business world has taught me that tenacity, drive and determination deliver results, I hope that I can bring that to the dancefloor. And I’m excited to see the impact of all those hours of training on my mum tum!’

Strictly Come Dancing 2021 launches on Saturday September 18 at 7.45pn on BBC One.
