But the determined dancer received glittering praise from her partner Gorka Marquez, who was very pleased with Maisie’s progress ahead of their first live dance on Saturday.
The 19-year-old’s commitment to learn also seemed to throw off his schedule for the day.
‘Rehearsal day, we are on lunch break. Well, we were on lunch break,’ he shared in an Instagram story as Maisie sashayed in front of a mirror in the background.
‘Well, we were on lunch break. She’s been practicing the whole lunch break.
‘I don’t know if I have to do another lunch break or just crack on. She’s been there for the last 45 minutes.’
Nodding approvingly at the camera, he added: ‘Great student.
Despite her determination, the bookmaker-backed contestant was very much ready to bid her Spanish counterpart goodbye and take a well-deserved siesta after a gruelling day.
She made that very clear in a second video Gorka posted at the end of rehearsal.
‘How are you feeling?’ Gorka asked.
To which Maisie, jacket on, bag packed and headed for the door, replied: ‘I’m done.’
‘She wanted to stay until, like, 10!’ he teased. ‘I said, “you won’t make it” and I was right!’
Maisie also shared a snap of her own from the epic day of dance in which she looked shattered, lying sprawled out on the dance floor in powder blue leggings, a turquoise crop top, and a pair of strappy heels with socks.
The caption read: ‘If you’re rehearsals don’t end up like this you’re doing it wrong [sic].’
Maisie was quick to spot her spelling error—a second photo is captioned ‘your*’.
It’s ok, Maisie. We know you had a long day.
The soap star’s EastEnders cast-mates have rallied around their co-star, including Louisa Lytton, who appeared on Strictly herself in 2006, telling Maisie to ‘go get that glitterball’.
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday at 7:25pm on BBC One.
