The Great British Bake Off has become a true UK institution over the past decade, and the show has changed its look more than once in that time.
But while it’s moved from BBC One to Channel 4, changed judging line-ups and hosts on more than one occassion, it has kept the same ethos that always made it so popular..
As it turns out, some of its most celebrated contestants have also changed quite considerably in that time too.
Viewers have taken the amateur bakers whipping up delicious dishes inside the tent to their hearts since back in 2010, and in the 11 years since some of the contestants are pretty difficult to recognise.
Jane was one of the most memorable contestants to take part in the 2016 series, only narrowly missing out to Candice Brown in the final.
She’s changed her look since then – and made no secret of her reason for doing so.
As it turns out, Jane unveiled brunette curls a few years ago as she was sick of being unfairly compared to a certain character in a cult British comedy.
The garden designer told The Sun: ‘I got a bit fed up of being blonde and, to be honest, fed up being compared to Jay from The Inbetweeners.
‘My kids thought it was hilarious. I don’t mind, either. It could have been a lot worse.’
It was way back in 2012 that Cathryn appeared in the tent alongside John Whaite, and in that time she’s launched a career as an author – and given herself a snazzy hairdo in the meantime, which is as bold as some of her creations on the show.
She’s written her cookbook Let’s Bake after her stint on the programme, and she keeps her followers updated with her efforts on Instagram too – as well as sharing cute pictures of puppies, naturally.
Candice has been very busy since winning the show back in 2016, but she’s still found the time to rock a brand new look.
The champion baker has swapped her brunette hair for a blonde ‘do, showing it off on Instagram over recent times.
It’s a strong change for the 36-year-old, who hasn’t been afraid of mixing up her hair colour in bold colours in the past. Head over to her Instagram to see her latest looks, kitchen creations and festival looks.
There are transformations, and then there are transformations. Ugne Bubnaityte’s is definitely the latter.
The fitness-obsessed Lithuanian baker has been taking part in competitive bodybuilding since taking part in the Bake Off back in 2015 and she has changed considerable amount during that time.
As well as sporting shoulder-length platinum hair these days, she’s been dedicating herself seriously to the discipline over the years and looks very much competition ready in her Instagram posts.
John has been swapping the whisk for the weights since leaving the tent, it seems.
The Bake Off contestant was a 23-year-old law student back in 2011 when the show aired, and since then he’s trimmed his hair and been hitting the gym.
His training over lockdown stood him in good stead for his recent Strictly Come Dancing debut, with the baker really getting into fitness over the pandemic.
He told PA: ‘I’m doing a bit more cardio. I’ve done weightlifting now for years, and I’ve really got into bodybuilding in the past 18 months.’
‘So I’ve now started to incorporate more stretching and cardio into my routine, and I have been watching what I eat as I want to get more lean. I am also shaving my chest, a lot more than I ever did!’
It all helped with his preparation for the dancing show, which saw him make history in the show’s first-ever all-male partnership – something he’s rightfully very proud of.
She’s become one of the most outspoken contestants in the show’s history since leaving the tent, and Ruby Tandoh also has a new look worth shouting about.
Her hair has gone from short curly hair to longer pink locks, and she’s been proudly showing it off on social media recently.
She’s had one of the most interesting post-Bake Off careers too. Since her appearance in 2013, she’s written the cookbooks Crumb, Flavour, Eat Up and Breaking Eggs.
She’s also stood up for her beliefs online – taking aim at Paul Hollywood and Fred Sirieix.
The Great British Bake Off continues tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
