The Chase star Anne Hegerty has revealed that she likes spending Christmas by herself and explained that she treats the annual occasion as a ‘day off.’
The well-known Chaser, 63, was Friday’s guest on Loose Women, where she discussed her upcoming role as villain Mrs. Blunderbore in this year’s Jack and The Beanstalk pantomime production at the Beck Theatre in Hayes.
However, when asked how she feels about the holiday, the quiz master said she loves it – because she gets quality alone time.
‘For quite a long time, I’ve actually preferred to spend Christmas on my own, which sounds awful and terribly lonely, but it’s my choice,’ said Anne.
‘There’s a zillion places I could for Christmas day, and to be honest, I just like having a day off, and not having to deal with people.
‘A day to sit around, eat mince pies, chocolate, watch the telly, and it’s great. I love it.’
Prior to becoming known as The Governess on The Chase, Anne was a journalist, and also worked as a ghostwriter, and it looks like the star could be eyeing up a career in acting.
Anne continued: ‘I like having the chance to do a bit of acting, I like having the chance to have an audience. It’s live theatre, which one doesn’t have the chance to do, and it isn’t The Chase.’
During an episode of The Chase, presenter Bradley Walsh pointed out that Anne would make a great addition to ITV’s longest-running soap Coronation Street.
Bradley told Anne: ‘You would be great in Coronation Street! I’m not being rude, but you would be a great battle-axe type character. I think you would be great!’
‘Yes, please cast me!’ Anne replied.
Loose Women is available to watch weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
