The O.C. is coming to Channel 4 in its entirety later this month

Channel 4 has announced that The O.C. is coming to all 4 this month – 2021 is already beating 2020, no competition.

The broadcaster confirmed that all four seasons of the iconic teen drama will be launching on its streaming service from January 22, and we can’t wait.

Originally running from 2003 to 2007, the beloved hit series was a pop culture phenomenon with a stellar cast including the likes of Ben McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson.

In a press release, Channel 4 said: ‘The multiple award-winning show presents the lives of a group of friends and family whose lives have forever been changed by the arrival of an outsider to their affluent oceanside community of Newport Beach in Orange County, California.

‘When Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) was taken in from the streets of Chino by then public defender Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher) and his wife, Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), the Cohens had no idea how Ryan’s arrival would change their lives and the lives of those around them.’

The show – which was created by Josh Schwartz – also included the likes of Melinda Clarke, Tate Donovan, Alan Dale, Chris Carmack, Autumn Reeser and Willa Holland.

C4 continued: ‘[Sandy and Kirsten’s son], Seth (Adam Brody), found a friend and brother in Ryan to share his quirky way of looking at the world – and the trials and tribulations of winning the heart of Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson), his lifelong crush.

‘Meanwhile, Ryan has fallen in love with the beautiful girl next door, Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton). But their romance is ill-fated, and constantly tested by the young lovers’ inability to escape from their pasts.’

From old fans looking to reminisce with some early-noughties nostalgia to youngsters getting their first taste of The O.C., its arrival – which comes after it appeared on Amazon Prime Video in 2019 – should help relieve some lockdown boredom in style.

Of course, we won’t spoil anything for anyone who missed it the first time round, but one thing you should know is that sadly the boss Schwartz has played down the idea of a reboot.

Speaking in the summer of 2019 (a simpler time), he said: ‘We were asked about doing a return to The O.C. to see those kids grown up. For us, that was a very, very singular story. We felt like we completed that tale by the end.’

We can dream.

*All four seasons of The O.C. will begin streaming on January 22, 2021.
