The Umbrella Academy fans are in for a wild ride when season 3 comes along, with Netflix not only revealing the release date for the new episodes, but also teasing the terror that’s to come when the Hotel Oblivion is introduced.
The third season of The Umbrella Academy recently wrapped filming, with actors including Elliot Page, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Robert Sheehan reprising their roles as a dysfunctional, superpowered family.
The series, based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way, follows a group of individuals with special abilities who are all born on the same day and adopted by an eccentric billionaire called Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore).
In the season 2 finale, the grown up Hargreeves siblings return to their home in the present day following their adventures in the 1960s, only to discover a different reality to the one they knew.
Not only is their father Reginald Hargreeves alive, but he’s also formed a different academy in their absence named the Sparrow Academy, which they’re shocked to learn includes their brother Ben (Justin H Min), who died in their reality several years previously.
In a new teaser released on The Umbrella Academy’s page on Netflix, a black and white graphic hints at the discord between the Sparrow Academy and the Umbrella Academy, as a sparrow flies towards an upside-down umbrella, resting on the handle as a swarm of birds emerge from inside.
Then as another umbrella appears on screen – this time the right way around – it transforms into a bell that one might come across on a counter at a hotel.
The bell rings as the release date of ‘2022’ is shown underneath and an old-fashioned rectangular frame materialises.
Fans of The Umbrella Academy comic books will have immediately recognised the nod to Hotel Oblivion, which appears in the third volume of the series.
While the third season of the show is shrouded in mystery, it’s acknowledged in the comic books that ‘no one could escape’ from the hotel.
So basically, we can expect the usual twists, turns and terrors that The Umbrella Academy has become known for. Sounds good to us!
Although we don’t have the exact day that the third season is going to come out, knowing it’s just around the corner in 2022 is sure to fuel the excitement of fans across the globe.
When season three of the show finished production, the cast celebrated by releasing a video teasing what’s to come.
‘That’s a wrap of season three of Umbrella Academy and I’m stoked ‘cause I can’t wait for you to see it and sad ‘cause I’ll miss everyone,’ Elliot, who plays Vanya in the show, said in the video while wearing a black T-shirt paying homage to The Matrix creators The Wachowski sisters.
Emmy, whose character Allison has powerful powers of persuasion, marked the occasion by stating: ‘Wow. I don’t think the world’s ready for this. I think it’s our best season yet.’
The Umbrella Academy is available to watch on Netflix.
