The Walking Dead fans have been crying out for a Negan origin story ever since Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared on our screens as the Saviour leader.
Creator of the franchise Robert Kirkman delivered the back story everyone had been craving in the comic book, Here’s Negan.
And it looks as though there are plans to expand the universe on the small screen, as showrunner Angela Kang recently teased a new script is on its way.
And we have everything crossed it’s about Negan.
When chatting during a virtual summit for New York Comic-Con this year, she addressed the current coronavirus pandemic and how it has made the team explore different avenues when it comes to writing.
Kang explained: ‘We’ve had to think outside of the box on how to make things still feel really scary, and really cool, and really emotional while being a little more conscious of how many people are in a scene.
‘Are there ways to do this where people aren’t in other people’s spaces?’
‘We have chosen to go in the other version of The Walking Dead tradition,’ she pressed. ‘Which is diving really deeply into these really cool character stories, and I think that is also The Walking Dead.
‘We have got a story I think a lot of the comic book fans have been waiting for for a long time and I love the script.
‘So we get to tease things in a different way.’
Kang went on to say while there have been limitations, ‘it has actually been a fun and creative challenge at the same time.’
Production has resumed following the pandemic as the cast and crew film the upcoming anthology series set to drop early next year.
They’ll also be working on season 11 which will wrap up the entire series in 2022, leaving fans with the Rick Grimes trilogy and Carol and Daryl spin-off to look forward to.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC and NOW TV next year.
