This Is Us finally reveals what happened to Randall’s birth mother

This Is Us finally confirmed that Randall Pearson’s (Sterling K. Brown) birth mom did not die when we all thought she did.

The show’s fifth season continued last night with another emotional episode in which it was confirmed that Randall won’t get to meet his birth mom because she recently passed away.

The character had always believed his mother died 40 years ago, but it turned out she had actually only been dead for five years.

Randall got the update from his birth mom’s friend who contracted him after that strip tease video of him dancing went viral.

The Vietnamese man – who has popped up a few times during the season – explained that he met Laura when they were in their twenties.

He confirmed that she died of breast cancer in 2015, and explained that William had really believed that she previously died of an overdose after childbirth.

Naturally, this information was a lot for Randall to process and he understandbly freaked out a bit.

After speaking with his therapist, he decided to find out more and meet up with the man in person.

Elsewhere, Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Madison (Caitlin Thompson) were struggling with the demands of his movie career while Kate (Chrissy Metz) continued the story about getting pregnant by Mark (Austin Abrams) at 18.

This Is Us continues Tuesdays on NBC in the US, while it is available to stream on Amazon Prime in the UK.
