Vernon Kay lost over two stone while in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! castle.
Over the past few weeks, viewers watched as the campmates struggled to prepare squirrel, eels and cuttlefish, pined for chocolate and chowed down on meagre portions of rice and beans.
And after 21 days in the castle, the restricted eating took its toll on finalist Vernon.
Tess Daly revealed her husband told her he lost 30lbs in the castle, and made sure to stock up the fridge ahead of his return.
The Strictly host wrote on Instagram: ‘Vern told me he’s lost 30lbs in weight. So I’ve been shopping to get some of his fave foods ready for his return… mostly meat, chocolate, and of course his favourite @yorkshiretea bags.’
Tess, 51, rifled through her shopping bags, which contained pancetta, bacon rashers, meatballs, pasta, baked camembert, pasta and a Turkish delight.
The star, who has been married to Vernon since 2003, added: ‘Wow that was a rollercoaster. What a brilliant series. Vernon went in there and he wanted to make us proud, and he’s done that with bells on.
‘Thank you so much for your support and your votes, he wouldn’t have been in the final without you.
‘Massive congratulations to Giovanna, queen of the castle, and I just can’t wait for him to come home. Yes Vernon, the fridge is full.’
Before the final vote, the trio took part in their last brutal Bushtucker Trials, with Vernon having to lie down with critters, scorpions and rotten fruit, Giovanna eating lamb’s testicles, and Jordan getting into an iron maiden with 50 snakes.
After winning all the stars, the campmates were treated to their dream meals, with Vernon opting for a prawn cocktail, followed by a main of roast chicken, sweet potatoes and coleslaw, and finished off with a dessert of sticky toffee pudding.
However, he regretted his choice of treat – cottage cheese and Marmite on toast – and baffled viewers by choosing a cup of tea as his dream drink.
While Jordan sipped on a pint of Guinness, Vernon’s cuppa arrived after the main, and the presenter even licked the teapot spout to get every last drop.
It truly is the little things.
Last night’s final was watched by a peak of 10.7 million viewers and an average of 9.7 million, up 600,000 on last year’s audience.
It’s almost like everybody is sitting at home…
