Vinnie Jones was the first star to be unmasked on the Australian version of The Masked Singer this week but it seems he didn’t have many positive things to say about his experience.
The actor and ex-footballer, 56, performed underneath the disguise of Volcano on the typically bizarre hit show Down Under.
Vinnie opted to sing a rendition of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers but failed to impress the show’s virtual audience in the series opener.
And, after he was unmasked on Monday night, it didn’t take him long to criticise the programme, which sees celebrities sing whilst hidden behind weird and wacky costumes.
Appearing on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, he declared: ‘Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking.’
The Snatch and X-Men star wasn’t too shy to admit he did the show for ‘the big cheque’ for appearing.
Vinnie went on to give a scathing review of those working behind the scenes, saying: ‘As soon as the cheque clears then the big stick comes out and they start whacking you on the ass with it, bossing me around.’
Asked about whether he felt satisfied to be first out of the competition, he admitted: ‘I never thought getting my head ripped off would be so satisfying.’
‘It was an out-of-body experience mate, I can tell you,’ he continued.
‘I wanted to give a few of them a backhander or a little slap and I couldn’t get near them because every time I felt like that, they put a cape over my head so I couldn’t see no one!
‘I felt like a boxer in the ring with my arms tied behind my back.’
Jackie O is also one of the panellists on the show, alongside pop icon Dannii Minogue and comedians Dave Hughes and Urzila Carlson.
It’s not the first time Vinnie has turned his hand to singing after he appeared on The X Factor: Celebrity back in 2019, which was eventually won by Towie star Megan McKenna.
The Masked Singer UK is set to begin filming for its third season next month, with Rita Ora expected to be returning to the panel as well as season 2’s Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross all back for more.
The Masked Singer UK returns later this year to ITV.
