The first trailer for Bradley Walsh’s Blankety Blank reboot has been released.
Following the success of the 2020 Christmas special, which saw celebs attempt to fill in the blanks to win prizes for contestants, BBC One has commissioned a full series.
In the first ad for the show, Bradley says: ‘If you’re old enough to remember the original, then congratulations on making it this far.’
The show has gone all out with its celebrity guests, with stars including Tess Daly, Judi Love, Craig Revel Horwood, Jimmy Carr, Martine McCutcheon, Joe Swash, Peter Andre, Ore Oduba, Rachel Riley, Joel Dommett and Scarlett Moffatt spied in the trailer.
The celebs are seen attempting to match answers with the contestants – with varying degrees of success.
Blankety Blank ran from 1979 until 1990 on the BBC, hosted by Terry Wogan followed by Les Dawson, and was revived by the BBC in 1997 – before moving to ITV in 2001 – with Paul O’Grady’s drag alter ego Lily Savage hosting.
ITV produced a Christmas special in 2016 hosted by David Walliams in 2016, but it was last year’s Christmas special back on the BBC that attracted the most fanfare.
6.3 million viewers tuned in to watch Jimmy Carr, Danny Jones, Emilia Fox, Anita Rani, Sue Perkins and Amir Khan fill in the blanks, making it the most watched entertainment programme across all channels on Christmas Day.
When the new series was announced in April, Bradley said: ‘I struggle to remember the last time I laughed as much as when I was filming Blankety Blank – so when they asked if I’d be up for doing a series, I jumped at the chance, I’m just so pleased I get to be a part of it. I stand on the shoulders of giants like Les Dawson and Sir Terry Wogan but I’m hoping to put my own stamp on the fantastically nostalgic show.’
Kate Phillips, Director of Entertainment at the BBC, said: ‘Blankety Blank has it all – ridiculous questions, unpredictable celebrities, bizarre prizes and, in Bradley a very funny and much loved host. I can’t wait for everyone to watch and start filling in those blanks!’
This is just the latest game show to be added to Bradley’s CV – he currently presents The Chase and Beat The Chasers on ITV and Take Off with Bradley & Holly on the Beeb, and previously hosted Cash Trapped, Keep It In The Family and Wheel of Fortune.
Blankety Blank starts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on October 2.
