Where is Junior Bake Off 2021 filmed and was it shot before Covid?

Junior Bake Off kicked off earlier this month with the competition heating up and eight contestants remaining – but where is it filmed?

The spin-off for the Channel 4 baking show has proven popular with some of the spirit of the original programme, but there are some notable differences, including its setting.

The main show is filmed at Welford Park, although restrictions brought on by the pandemic meant the famous tent was situated and the Down Hall Hotel in Essex for last year’s run.

But what about the junior edition? Here’s everything you need to know…

Filming for Junior Bake Off takes place at Cobham Hall in Kent, which was built in the 17th century and now houses an exclusive private boarding school.

As you’d expect, an education here doesn’t come cheap, with sixth form day student enrolment costing up to £7,936 per term, while borders have to cough up £12,349.

While you can’t get onto set during filming – obviously – the main building is open to the public on certain days, although this is limited at the moment due to the pandemic.

And the location is available to hire as a private venue, whether that’s for weddings, residential lettings or conferences.

Was Junior Bake Off 2021 filmed before Covid?

The current series of Junior Bake Off was shot during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ideally, Love Productions look to shoot during weekends and school holidays to ‘avoid taking children out of school’, as noted on the application website’s Rules of Entry section.

Because of this, filming usually takes place over the summer, and for the current series, that meant recording between June and September for 15-20 days.

On the application site for the upcoming seventh series, the team noted that they are keeping an eye on the Covid situation.

They wrote: ‘We are closely monitoring the situation regarding Covid-19 and we are following the advice of Public Health England.

‘As a result, we may adjust how or when we carry out auditions. The safety and welfare of everyone involved in our productions is always paramount.’

Junior Bake Off airs weekdays at 5pm on Channel 4.
