WWE faction RETRIBUTION were dealt another blow at Hell In A Cell as Slapjack lost to Bobby Lashley for the United States Title.
The masked member of the mysterious group was handpicked by the Hurt Business to face the US Champion in an impromptu clash for the gold during Sunday’s event, but he came up short.
He fell to the Hurt Lock, while the faction as a whole was chased off by MVP’s crew as the commentator’s hinted their issues are far from over.
Although there were mixed feelings from fans, the man behind the mask will no doubt have been delighted to feature in a title match on a major event.
Now known as Slapjack, the superstar will be better known to NXT fans as Shane Thorne, an Australian wrestler who has been signed with WWE since 2016.
The former Pro Wrestling Noah star – who has appeared in the likes of Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla over the years – made his NXT debut in 2016 alongside teammate Nick Miller.
The pair debuted under the name TM-61, competing in that year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Although their run was marred by injury, they worked well together before Miller was released from his contract by December 2018.
By March earlier this year, Thorne reunited with former TMDK stablemate Brendan Vink, which led to a short lived relationship with MVP before they were both traded back to NXT just a month or so later.
Thorne would later be revealed as one of the masked members of RETRIBUTION, and now has a chance to finally make a mark after almost half a decade with WWE.
Only time will tell if the promotion can salvage something from the group, which has had a stuttering start on the main roster.
