Mexican wrestler Principe Aereo has died aged 26 after collapsing during a match.
The young luchador was rushed to hospital after the horrible incident during a MexaWrestling show at the Arena San Juan Pantitlan in Mexico City.
According to reports, Aereo was hit by a few planned chops to his chest and a staged kick before collapsing.
His opponent immediately checked on him after realising something had gone wrong, and the referee called for assistance.
He was transported to a local hospital, but sadly died.
The cause of death is yet to be determined, with some reports suggesting a heart attack while others have claimed a stroke.
Footage of the harrowing moment has surfaced on social media, although we have decided against including the sensitive video.
Fans and fellow wrestlers have shared tributes to the late luchador, including WWE legend and Hall of Famer Mick Foley.
Sharing a news story covering the tragic loss, he wrote: ‘My deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of luchador Principe Aereo, who died in the ring, following an apparent stroke.
‘Rest in peace Principe.’
And current WWE star Santos Escobar – currently performing on NXT as the black and gold brand’s Cruiserweight champion – change his profile picture on Twitter to an black and white edit paying tribute to Aereo, who can be seen with angel wings.
His emotional message, translated from Spanish, read: ‘What SAD news, REST IN PEACE, #PrincipeAereo #RIPPrincipeAereo
‘FIGHT FREE of mourning … THIS TRIBUTE FOR YOU BOY !! (sic)’
The sad news comes after a difficult week for the wrestling world, with British star Ryan Smile losing his fight with mental health, while German legend Karsten Beck died after a long battle with brain cancer.
