The first official look at Dwayne Johnson in action as Black Adam has been revealed at the 2021 DC FanDome event.
The WWE icon and Jungle Cruise star introduced the clip on Saturday as the first of the fan streaming event’s big reveals, explaining that he and director Jaume Collet-Serra felt that had to bring a ‘little something’ with them for fans, while the film is busy in post-production.
Setting the scene, 49-year-old said: ‘This character, this film, this universe, has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time.
‘It’s the kind of project I know comes along once in a lifetime. The truth is, I was born to play Black Adam.’
The actor then introduced the teaser clip as an opening scene from the film.
In the wordless footage, a military-esque team are shown discovering Black Adam, with the anti-hero showing off his electrifying powers by crushing one to dust and catching a bullet between his fingers in the ensuing open fire.
The clip also gave a look at the character’s costume, comprising an all-black belted bodysuit with his emblem emblazoned on the chest, black leather gloves and a hooded black cape.
Hours before the event, star Dwayne had shared a teaser clip of Black Adam ahead of the film’s official unveiling at DC FanDome, which showed a brief glimpse at Black Adam and featured co-star Pierce Brosnan addressing the camera.
The Bond actor, who plays Doctor Fate, tells the audience: ‘Nothing compares to this,’ before Dwayne adds: ‘The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.’
No biggie, then.
Jumanji star Dwayne then followed up his appearance at DC FanDome by dropping the full sizzle reel and clip on Twitter, writing: ‘Ladies & gents… Enjoy your WORLD EXCLUSIVE first look.
‘He is ruthless. He is unstoppable. He is the reason the hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change.’
The character Black Adam was originally supposed to debut in Shazam! Opposite Zachary Levi, before Warner Bros decided to launch the anti-hero in his own movie.
The film will also star Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Straight Outta Compton’s Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Euphoria’s Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.
Black Adam is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 29, 2022.
